- July 1919: Sachs sees way to acquiring Crucifixion; Forbes sends drafts for purchase of Crucifixion (23,000 lire) and Painting 00043 (25,000 lire), as well as Painting 00045 and various pieces of furniture (5600 lire); total paid (50,600 lire) includes reduction of 2500 lire conditional on purchase of all objects (Letters 00039, 00040, 00041, 00042, 00043, 00044, 00045)

- possibly small Crucifixion cited by Murray as by Ambrogio and in his possession, in Florence, in Burckhardt 1884 (II, 550)
- possibly "Small Crucifixion" by Pietro Lorenzetti listed as in Murray's collection, London, in Berenson 1909 (188) (but this more likely to be Painting 00044)

- June 1914: put up for sale Petit (Murray) 1914 (lot 20) but bought in (Letters 00003, 00011; nominally sold to "Jones" for 19,000 frs [asked price 20,000 frs])
- January 1916: Forbes asks whether painting in good condition, by Pietro or school and if Murray willing to sell to Fogg (Letter 00011)
- April 1916: on offer (at price at which withdrawn at Paris sale) to agent for unnamed American collection (Letter 00003), probably friend for whom G.E. Murray bought it on commission (for 19,000 frs + 10% = 20,900 frs), but who on outbreak of war had changed his mind (Letter 00028)
- May 1916: G.E. Murray encouraged by F.M. Perkins to offer painting to P.J. Sachs for 23,000 frs and delivery free of charge (Letter 00028)
- June 1916: Forbes has heard American collector no longer interested in painting, so Murray now willing to sell and at what price? (Letter 00025)
- July 1916: Forbes likes photograph but asks to inspect painting before deciding on purchase and for reduction in price for Museum (Letters 00026, 00032)
- August 1916: G.E. Murray informs Sachs of father's recent stroke and declares himself willing to risk sending the painting on approval (Letter 00029)
- September 1916: Sachs and Forbes both request painting be sent on approval (Letters 00030, 00027, 00031)
- November 1916: Forbes and Sachs disappointed in painting (negative effects of old varnish; weak draughtmanship) and decline to make offer; can show it to American dealers and collectors (Letter 00020)
- December 1916: Forbes offers £2000 for Lorenzetti and Painting 00031 (Letter 00033); offer refused (Letter 00034: C.F. Murray wants £3000 for Painting 00031)
- February 1917: Forbes has heard no more, but defers action until international situation improves; meanwhile interested to hear further re. Lorenzetti and Painting 00031 (Letter 00035)
- April 1917: G.E. Murray confirms Forbes may show painting to friends; should no sale ensue, to return it (Letter 00036)
